There are so many cool overseas editions of our favorite issues. This is the Thai language edition of Batman #423, with a pink heart on the cover!

Yesterday, I talked about UK price variants, but today we're going BROADER!

For almost every famous key issue, there is at least one overseas variant edition published for a different country, often in a different language.

There are pros and cons of collecting foreign comics.

The pros:

> They are really cool and fun to hunt down.
> Many people aren't interested, so they tend to be affordable when you do find them.
> Some of the names of characters, teams or even sound effects are hilarious in non-English languages.

The cons:
 

> It's hard to quantify just how many of them there are. Is a Brazilian Batman #181 rare? Maybe not.
> The CGC census is improving, but it's not perfect. Are the overseas editions described correctly? It's going to be challenging to see even how many certified examples there are of certain key overseas books.

> You may have to hunt in unfamiliar places to find what you're looking for. German and Spanish comics are reasonably common in North America, but more obscure editions are far less easy to find.

Here are a few I've come across over the years. At the office, Jamie had "Ash's Box o' Crap" which he would throw "junk" into when it came into the warehouse in a collection.

Consequently, I've got over 1,000 UK price variants and assorted foreign weirdness, including some Finnish Tom and Jerry, some South Seas Islands edition Batman, and Thai Detective Comics!

Here's one of the Tom and Jerry, still sealed in the original bag with a toy plastic hammer included -- which seems to be asking for trouble!

Many of the more valuable overseas comics are ones we are all familiar with, such as Avengers #4 -- the UK reprint title Mystic (not to be confused with the Atlas title) running a reprint series of the entire Avengers run.

Or this German reprint of Incredible Hulk #181:

How about that Brazilian Batman #181, 1st Poison Ivy? or as the Brazlians put it, Poisonous Ivy (Hera Venenosa)...

I personally much prefer it when the cover art on a US original is redrawn for the overseas market, so the contents are the same, but the interpretation is different.

While the Mystic UK Avengers #4 is really faithful to the original, here's their Avengers #8, 1st Kang the Conqueror, apparently published during a period of white space rationing:
