Why Key Issues are Key -- and How to Get Help to Price Them

Hi

We are really excited about this topic.

KEY ISSUE COMIC BOOKS ARE KEY! That sounds really obvious, but what does it mean, exactly?

This newsletter will help you in two ways. We will explain how key issues are important; and show you ONE FREE TOOL that helps you to price them.

Let's get to it!

Before I begin, here are some quick shortcuts to our stuff:

Why Key Issues Are So Important

The first appearance of a superhero, or villain. Their origin story. Their death.

These are all reasons why a key issue is important.

How does this work in the market?
  1. It Starts at the Top
  2. It Trickles Down to Semi-Keys
  3. The Rich Get Richer!
I'll break these down one by one.

1) It Starts at the Top

The first appearance of a Spider-Man, as I'm sure you're aware, is Amazing Fantasy #15. The entry level for a CGC-graded rag in 0.5 shape is now $5,000.

Everybody wants one of these. Including people who don't like Spider-Man. This leads to the trickle down effect...

2) The Trickle Down Effect

If you cannot afford a decent AF#15 (first Spider-Man), you might be able to afford a decent ASM #1 (second Spider-Man).

If you cannot afford a decent ASM#129 (first Punisher), you might be able to afford a decent ASM #135 (second Punisher).

This is the trickle down effect. The bigger money moves higher, the smaller money feeds on whatever's left.

But this means the rich get richer...

3) The Rich Get Richer

Google. Apple. Facebook. Tesla.

All stocks you wish you'd got in on at the beginning. All stocks now very expensive to buy, but still everybody wants them.

Key issue comic books are a bit like that.

The people holding the high-grade keys already only benefit from the feeding frenzy lower down the market.

But guess what? If you buy NOW you will eventually benefit from this, too!

The longer you put off the decision to buy, the higher the barrier to entry gets.

One FREE Tool to Help You (Actually It's Not a Tool... It's a SERVICE... Actually Again, it's ASH)

Right at the beginning of Sell My Comic Books, Ash set up this page:

This was just a way to find out if anybody was paying attention. I had no idea people would really use it.

Now it's a very popular feature, and it takes a LOT of my time.

Never mind! I want you to get into the important key issue market, and I'm prepared to give my time to help.

Here's how it works:

  1. Find an eBay key issue
  2. Use the above page to send me the details

I will appraise the item, say if it's a PASS, BUY, or BID, and advise you how much.

Please don't:

  • Request appraisals of items under $100
  • Request dozens of appraisals
  • Request appraisals on books you're not ever going to buy

If this service is abused, it's going to be retired. Use it sparingly when you're really "on the fence".
